Securely store backup codes

When Kraken supplies backup codes for 2FA recovery, print them or write them down and store them in a physically secure location such as a safe or safety deposit box. Avoid saving backup codes in cloud drive or on a phone that might be lost or hacked.

Lost 2FA device — step-by-step

  1. Attempt sign-in with backup codes if available.
  2. Use your offline documented recovery plan to contact support via your bookmarked support route.
  3. Rotate passwords, re-register 2FA, and audit API keys once access is regained.

Test your recovery plan

Run a dry-run recovery on a lower-value account or set a calendar reminder to confirm backup codes remain accessible and valid. Rehearsing the steps prevents mistakes during real incidents.

Note: This recovery guidance is educational and not an official Kraken support page. It contains no credential collection.
